Canowindra (pronounced Ca-noun-dra) is a historic township surrounded by rolling foothills, vineyards, olive groves, orchards and farms. Canowindra is a classic country town to visit.

For those with an interest in history, Gaskill Street is a heritage listed main street, with many fine examples of Victorian architecture.

Age of Fishes

One of the greatest discoveries in Australia was made near Canowindra in 1956. Approximately 3500 fossils, dating back 360 million years, have been recovered, many of them complete. The collection is displayed at the Age of Fishes Museum, in Gaskill Street, and is open daily.

Hot Air Ballooning

Canowindra is recognised as the ballooning capital of Australia. Hot air ballooning can be arranged with local hot air balloon companies.

Wine Tasting

The vineyards of Canowindra have been causing a stir in the wine world, consistently producing premium wines that have won numerous trophies and awards. Food and Wine Events

Spring is the season for a myriad of food and wine events. In October Canowindra winegrowers participate in the annual Cowra Cork and Fork festival where people enjoy all the food and wine of the Cowra (and Canowindra) region in one place.

Natural Wonders

If natural wonders take your interest, a short drive northwest of Canowindra will reveal the Nangar National Park. From the lookout on top of the ridge you can see the vast valley below and particularly during spring, beautiful flowering plants in abundance.

Golf

The Canowindra Golf Club boasts a 9 hole course that is renowned in the area for its quality. Package deals with the golf club can be arranged through the Old Vic Inn.
